Simon Sohm joins Venezia from Fiorentina on season-long loan

Switzerland-Nigeria midfielder Simon Sohm has joined Venezia from Fiorentina on loan, giving the Serie A club a new central midfield option for the 2026-27 campaign.

The 25-year-old has moved between two Italian clubs on 2 August 2026, with the loan scheduled to run until 30 June 2027. Sohm’s contract is listed through that date, and he will return to Fiorentina when the loan ends.

Sohm arrives at Venezia after spending the second half of the 2025-26 season on loan at Bologna. He returned to Fiorentina at the end of that temporary spell before completing his move to Venezia.

The Zurich-born midfielder joined Fiorentina from Parma in August 2025 in a permanent transfer worth €15m. His move to Parma came in October 2020 from Swiss club FC Zurich, where he developed through the youth system and made his senior breakthrough.

Sohm helped Parma win the Serie B title in the 2023-24 season. Across his career, he has made 87 appearances in Serie B, registering eight assists, while his Serie A record stands at 83 appearances, five goals and one assist.

He has also featured in European competition, making five appearances in the Europa League and three in the Conference League. In domestic cup football, he has 12 Italy Cup appearances, with one goal and four assists.

A right-footed central midfielder standing 1.88m tall, Sohm adds experience of both Italy’s top two divisions to Venezia’s squad. His move also keeps him in Serie A after Fiorentina, Bologna and Venezia formed part of his recent sequence of transfers.

Sohm began his football education with FC Zurich’s youth teams before moving to Parma at 19. His time in Italy has since included regular league involvement and a spell with the Parma side that secured promotion as Serie B champions.

Venezia’s agreement is a loan rather than a permanent transfer, with no purchase fee or option recorded as part of the move. Sohm has therefore switched to Venezia for the 2026-27 season while remaining contracted to Fiorentina until the end of the loan period.
