Aymane El Hassouni returns to Wydad AC on a free transfer

Morocco attacking midfielder Aymane El Hassouni has rejoined Wydad AC from Libya’s Swehly on a free transfer, returning to the Casablanca club after two seasons abroad.

The 31-year-old was born in Casablanca and developed through Wydad’s youth system before stepping into the senior squad in 2015. He left the Moroccan side for Muaither SC in July 2023, also on a free transfer, and later played for Ajman Club before joining Swehly in February 2025 after a period without a club.

El Hassouni made 19 appearances for Swehly in the 2025-26 Libyan Premier League season, scoring four goals. He helped the club win the Libyan championship, adding a domestic title in Libya to a career that has been heavily decorated in Morocco.

During his previous spell with Wydad, El Hassouni won the Moroccan championship five times, in 2014-15, 2016-17, 2018-19, 2020-21 and 2021-22. He also lifted the CAF Champions League with the club in 2021-22 and the CAF Super Cup in 2017-18.

His return gives Wydad an experienced option in attacking midfield. The right-footed player stands 1.87m tall and has recorded 156 appearances, 22 goals and 14 assists in the Botola Pro Inwi. He has also played 64 CAF Champions League matches, scoring three times and providing 11 assists.

El Hassouni’s career has included spells in several leagues outside Morocco, with time in Libya, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. His record also includes 21 appearances and five goals in the Stars League, as well as 14 Coupe du Trone appearances in which he scored six goals.

The move marks a return to the club where he collected the majority of his major honours and began his senior career. Wydad AC have now brought back the Morocco international for the 2026-27 season following his title-winning campaign with Swehly.

El Hassouni’s contract with Wydad AC runs until 30 June 2027.
