AER Afantou sign Cameroon-Greek midfielder Jacques Alberto Ngwem on free transfer

Cameroon-Greek defensive midfielder Jacques Alberto Ngwem has joined Greek club AER Afantou on a free transfer from Nea Ionia.

Ngwem, 33, completed the move on 1 August 2026 and will remain with AER Afantou until 30 June 2027. The right-footed midfielder was born in Eseka, Cameroon, and stands 1.82m tall.

He arrives after a spell with Nea Ionia, whom he joined from Panionios in January 2025, also on a free transfer. His latest move represents another change of club within Greek football, where he has spent much of his senior career.

Ngwem has made 109 appearances in the Football League, scoring twice, while he has also featured 21 times in the Kypello Elladas. His record includes a further 11 appearances in Kazakhstan’s Premier Liga and nine in the Football League South.

The midfielder began his recorded senior career in Spain with San Roque Lepe before moving to Greece in 2012 to join Fokikos. He subsequently played for PGS Kissamikos, Atromitos, AO Chania, PAS Lamia, AOX Kissamikos and Ast. Amaliada.

During his time at Atromitos, Ngwem spent part of the 2014-15 season on loan with AO Chania before returning to his parent club. He later moved to Kallithea, where he made his return to Greek football after a spell without a club.

His career has also included a period with Atyrau in Kazakhstan, which followed a free transfer from Volos NFC in July 2019. After leaving Atyrau in January 2020, he was without a club until joining Kallithea later that year.

Ngwem then moved from Kallithea to Almyros Gaziou in September 2021, before switching to Panionios in July 2024. He left Panionios for Nea Ionia six months later, setting up his latest free move.

Ngwem’s transfer to AER Afantou was completed on 1 August 2026, with the midfielder’s contract running until 30 June 2027.
