Sofyan Amrabat chooses Real Betis over Gulf move
Morocco midfielder reaches agreement in principle with Spanish club as negotiations continue
Morocco international Sofyan Amrabat has reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Real Betis over the financial terms of a proposed contract, although negotiations between the Spanish club and Fenerbahçe remain ongoing.
According to information obtained, the midfielder has identified Real Betis as his preferred destination and is prioritising a return to La Liga despite interest from clubs in the Gulf.
While personal terms are understood to have been agreed in principle, the transfer is yet to be completed because the two clubs have not reached an agreement over the transfer fee.
Betis unwilling to meet Fenerbahçe’s asking price
The main obstacle to completing the deal remains the valuation placed on the player by Fenerbahçe.
According to sources, the Turkish club is demanding €20 million for the Moroccan midfielder.
Real Betis, however, are not prepared to meet that figure and are hoping negotiations in the coming days will lead to a reduced fee that satisfies both clubs.
Until an agreement is reached, discussions are expected to continue as Betis attempt to secure the services of the experienced midfielder.
The outcome of those talks will determine whether Amrabat can complete his proposed move back to Spanish football.
Amrabat rejects Gulf offers to remain in Europe
Despite attracting interest from outside Europe, Amrabat is reportedly determined to continue competing at the highest level.
From reports the Atlas Lions midfielder has rejected every offer received from Gulf clubs, believing that Real Betis offers the sporting project best suited to his ambitions.
The report adds that Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad remain interested and are preparing a bid worth €12 million for the player.
The Saudi club is also said to be ready to present an attractive salary package in an effort to convince Amrabat to change his mind.
However, the midfielder’s preference remains focused on continuing his career in European football.
Experienced international targeting La Liga return
Now 29, Amrabat has built an extensive career across several European leagues.
Developed at FC Utrecht, he later represented Feyenoord, Club Brugge, Hellas Verona, Fiorentina and Manchester United on loan before joining Turkish side Fenerbahçe.
Since arriving in Istanbul, he has become an important member of the team’s midfield.
During the 2024-25 season, the Morocco international made 39 appearances in all competitions and scored two goals.
His consistent performances reinforced his value to Fenerbahçe while also attracting interest from clubs seeking an experienced midfielder.
Negotiations between Real Betis and Fenerbahçe are expected to continue over the coming days.
Should the two clubs reach a compromise on the transfer fee, Amrabat could complete a move to La Liga, where he hopes to begin the next chapter of his career after making Europe his clear priority.
