Adem Zorgane and Union Saint-Gilloise opened the 2026-27 season by winning the Belgian Super Cup, defeating Club Brugge in a penalty shootout after an entertaining contest at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Friday evening.

The Brussels club, which qualified for the Super Cup after winning last season’s Belgian Cup, overcame the reigning Belgian league champions on their own ground to secure the first trophy of the new campaign.

The match remained closely contested before Club Brugge broke the deadlock shortly after the restart.

Zorgane collects second trophy in Belgium

For Zorgane, the Super Cup triumph represents his second major title since arriving in Belgium.

The former Paradou AC midfielder had already celebrated success just two months earlier after helping Union Saint-Gilloise lift the Belgian Cup.

Adding the Belgian Super Cup to that achievement continues an impressive run for the Algerian international, who has become an important figure in the team’s midfield.

Beginning the new campaign with another winners’ medal also provides further momentum ahead of a demanding period for both player and club.

Attention turns to Champions League qualifiers

While Union Saint-Gilloise celebrated lifting the Belgian Super Cup, preparations will now quickly shift to European competition.

The Belgian side returns to action on Tuesday when they host Norwegian club FK Bodø/Glimt in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie.

The return fixture will take place one week later in Norway, where the winner will move a step closer to reaching the competition’s main stages.

After opening the season with silverware, Union Saint-Gilloise and Zorgane will now look to carry that confidence into one of the most important fixtures of their campaign as they continue their pursuit of success on both the domestic and European fronts.
