Steve Mounie skips Augsburg training camp for individual build‑up

Steve Mounie will not join FC Augsburg’s summer training camp in Achenkirch, Austria, as the striker continues a tailored build‑up programme at home.

The club confirmed on Friday that he is currently following individual recovery work rather than travelling with the main squad.

The team departed for Achenkirch to prepare for the new season until 7 August, but Mounie was left out of the travelling group to focus on fitness. Augsburg have not detailed the exact nature of his issues, only stressing that he is in an individual phase of training.

Mounie’s career has long been shaped by persistence. A Montpellier youth academy graduate, he made his senior debut on 28 October 2014 in a Coupe de la Ligue tie against Ajaccio, coming on late in a 1-0 defeat. On 31 August 2015, he was loaned to Nîmes in Ligue 2, where he became the club’s top scorer with 11 goals in 33 competitive games, all in the league.

That scoring run helped establish him as a reliable front man. Now, Augsburg hope his current build‑up programme will allow him to return at full strength and play a major role once the Bundesliga season begins.
