Filippo Mane trains individually after Dortmund injury

Filippo Mane worked separately from Borussia Dortmund’s main group on Friday after picking up an injury in the recent friendly against Cerezo Osaka.

The 21-year-old center-back instead completed running work with an athletics coach away from the team session.

Dortmund had hoped the setback would be minor, and coach Niko Kovač had already offered some reassurance after the match. Even so, Mane was not ready to rejoin full training the next day, so the staff opted for caution.

Mane’s rise at Dortmund has been shaped by patience and setbacks. As a youth player, he joined the club’s academy and even captained the team before signing his first professional contract on 6 January 2025. Recurring injuries then kept him out for much of the 2024–25 season, slowing his progress.

He eventually made his senior debut in the DFB-Pokal against Rot-Weiss Essen, helping Dortmund win 1-0 away on 18 August. Five days later, he started his first Bundesliga match at St. Pauli, where a VAR review led to a straight red card after he conceded a penalty in a 3-3 draw.
