WAFCON 2026: Jennifer Cudjoe sends Black Queens into Cameroon clash with rallying cry

Black Queens midfielder Jennifer Cudjoe says Ghana must raise their performance levels when they face Cameroon in their second Group D match at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Ghana began their tournament campaign on a positive note after defeating debutants Cape Verde 2-0 at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco, on Wednesday.

An early goal from Doris Boaduwaa and a second-half own goal from Cape Verde defender Eleia Vieira secured all three points for the Black Queens, who are aiming to reach the semi-finals and qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Cudjoe, one of the experienced figures in the squad, admitted Ghana were pleased with the result but believes there is room for improvement ahead of a much tougher encounter against Cameroon on August 2.

“I feel good also. I feel like, yeah, it’s a first game for us, but it’s great to get the three points. And we’re looking forward to stepping up. We know that we can do better than what we did, but also we take whatever that we got today.”

The Brooklyn FC midfielder stressed the importance of approaching the competition one game at a time while remaining focused on the challenges ahead.

Ghana’s victory moved them temporarily to the top of Group D and provided a confidence boost after their disappointing opening defeat at the previous WAFCON tournament.

The Black Queens will now prepare for Cameroon, who are among the strongest sides in the group, with Cudjoe expecting the team to build on their winning start.
