Samsung Galaxy A27 5G launches with 120Hz display and new AI features

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has announced the Galaxy A27 5G, introducing a larger, smoother display, upgraded performance and a broader range of artificial intelligence tools to its mid-range smartphone line.

The new device builds on the Galaxy A26 5G and is designed to make everyday mobile use more intuitive. Its headline features include a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, a redesigned front-facing camera layout, faster processing and expanded access to AI assistants.

Samsung says the Galaxy A27 5G is intended to provide a more immersive viewing experience, with a screen that keeps content prominent while reducing visual distractions.

The phone uses an upgraded Infinity-O display, with the front camera housed in a discreet punch-hole cut-out. A smaller and more balanced bezel creates additional usable screen space, while the device’s 7.8mm-thick body is designed to remain comfortable to hold throughout the day.

Faster performance and improved camera

The Galaxy A27 5G is powered by the Snapdragon® 6 Gen 3 Mobile Platform. Samsung says the chipset is intended to improve responsiveness when users move between applications or manage several tasks at the same time.

Graphics performance has also been increased, supporting smoother visuals during gaming and streaming. The device includes high-speed memory designed to improve data transfer speeds and power efficiency, upgrades which Samsung says will contribute to a more dependable daily experience.

The smartphone’s 12-megapixel front camera is another change from its predecessor. It is designed to capture a wider range of brightness and produce richer colours, with the aim of delivering more natural-looking selfies in different lighting conditions.

Expanded AI features

Samsung has also enhanced the AI tools available on the Galaxy A27 5G. Circle to Search with Google now supports multi-object recognition, allowing users to identify and search for several items in a single image. The feature can be used to explore clothing and accessories, while outfits can also be tried on virtually from search results.

Object Eraser has been updated to provide more precise results when removing unwanted elements from photographs. Samsung says the tool is intended to produce more natural-looking edits.

The Voice Recorder app gains a translation function within Voice Transcription. It can translate while recording and transcribing, helping users capture meeting notes in 22 languages.

The Galaxy A27 5G supports a choice of AI assistants, including Google Gemini and Perplexity. Samsung has also expanded AI integration across native Galaxy applications, including Gallery, to enable faster and more straightforward interactions.

Bixby is supported as a conversational device agent, allowing users to control settings and features using natural language.

Long-term support and availability

Samsung says the Galaxy A27 5G will receive up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades, along with up to six years of security updates from the date of its initial global launch. The company says this is intended to give customers more confidence in using the device over a longer period.

Security is supported by Samsung Knox, including hardware-backed protection from Knox Vault. These features are designed to protect sensitive information and make device security easier to manage.

The Galaxy A27 5G will go on sale at Samsung stores, network operators and retailers from 1 July, followed by Samsung online stores from 10 July. It will be available in Black and Light Green, with a recommended retail price of R6,999.

Samsung Care+ will also be available, offering coverage tailored to users’ needs and benefits intended to help protect the value of the device.
