Al Ahly continue impressive form with seven-goal rout before Barcelona clash
Hussein Ammouta’s perfect start as Al Ahly coach continued on Thursday as the Egyptian giants thrashed La Viena 7-1 in a friendly match ahead of their meeting with Barcelona later this month.
The emphatic victory was Al Ahly’s second successive win under the Moroccan tactician, who has overseen an impressive start since taking charge of the Club of the Century.
The Cairo side had already opened their pre-season preparations with a commanding 5-1 victory over Al-Nasr, and Ammouta’s latest success will further boost confidence before the trip to Spain.
Al Ahly maintain momentum under Ammouta
Al Ahly took control of the contest from the outset, with Moroccan winger Achraf Bencharki opening the scoring against La Viena as the team cruised to victory.
The result follows the club’s dominant performance against Al-Nasr of Cairo in Ammouta’s first game in charge, when goals from Aktai Abdullah, a brace from Gradishar, Hussein El Shahat and Samir Mohamed sealed a 5-1 triumph.
The back-to-back victories underline the positive impact the former Morocco and Jordan coach has had on the squad in the early stages of his tenure.
Focus shifts to Barcelona challenge
Ammouta is using the pre-season fixtures to sharpen his players both technically and physically ahead of Al Ahly’s upcoming trip to Spain.
The African champions are scheduled to face Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy at the Spotify Camp Nou on 19 August, in what will be one of the biggest tests of their preparations for the new campaign.
The encounter is expected to provide Ammouta with a clearer indication of his team’s readiness as Al Ahly continue to build momentum under their new coach.
Moroccan coach targets strong start
Having scored 12 goals across his opening two matches in charge, Ammouta will be encouraged by the attacking displays produced by his side.
The Moroccan tactician is expected to continue refining his squad in the coming weeks as Al Ahly seek to carry their impressive pre-season form into the competitive season.
