Rafiq Lamptey: Anglo-Ghanaian midfielder joins Chesterfield on loan from Millwall U21

Chesterfield have signed Anglo-Ghanaian midfielder Rafiq Lamptey on a season-long loan from Millwall U21. The 19-year-old central midfielder joins the League Two side for the 2026-27 campaign and is under contract at Chesterfield until 31 May 2027, when he is scheduled to return to Millwall.

Lamptey moves into senior league football after developing in Millwall’s youth ranks, having joined their U21 set-up from non-league Harrow Borough in August 2024 on a free transfer. His switch to Chesterfield marks his first temporary move away from the Championship club.

Comfortable in central midfield, Lamptey has already had a taste of first-team action in cup competition, making one FA Cup appearance and providing an assist in 24 minutes on the pitch. He has also been part of matchday squads across several domestic competitions, including the EFL Cup and Premier League Cup, as he builds his experience in the professional game.

Born in August 2006 and eligible for both England and Ghana, Lamptey adds youthful energy and depth to Chesterfield’s midfield options as they prepare for the new League Two season. His arrival continues Chesterfield’s use of the loan market to supplement their squad with emerging talent from higher divisions.

Lampey’s loan to Chesterfield is officially in place for the 2026-27 season, with the agreement due to end on 31 May 2027.
