Jean-Luc Dompe expected to leave Hamburg

Jean-Luc Dompe looks increasingly likely to leave Hamburger SV, with the club no longer planning around the French winger.

The 30-year-old is expected to be moved on this summer as HSV reshape their squad for the new season.

His role has already faded sharply. After returning from holiday, the club were reportedly unhappy with his fitness numbers, and he was used only briefly in the friendly against Rapid Vienna before adductor issues slowed him down further. That has left him well down the pecking order.

Tactically, Dompé no longer fits cleanly into Merlin Polzin’s preferred 3-4-2-1 system, which relies heavily on energetic wing-backs rather than classic wide forwards. His performances last season also fell short of the levels he showed during HSV’s promotion push, making his situation even more difficult.

With his contract running until next summer, HSV are said to be open to accepting less than his market value, which is listed at 2.5 million euros, if it helps them move him on now. The club would also benefit from removing one of their higher earners.
