WAFU B U20 Championship: Ghana and Burkina Faso share spoils in tense Group B encounter

Ghana kept their hopes alive at the 2026 WAFU B Under-20 Championship after coming from behind to draw 1-1 with Burkina Faso in a hard-fought Group B encounter on Thursday.

Joseph Badu scored the equaliser for the Black Satellites at the Lycée Scientifique Stadium in Yamoussoukro, helping Ghana secure their first point of the tournament after falling behind.

The result leaves the four-time African champions third in Group B with one point from two matches, setting up a decisive final group game against Togo.

Badu inspires Ghana comeback

Ghana showed resilience after Burkina Faso took the lead, responding strongly to avoid defeat in a match they needed to get something from.

The Black Satellites increased the pressure in search of an equaliser and were rewarded when Badu found the back of the net to restore parity.

Neither side was able to find a winner, with the two teams eventually forced to settle for a share of the points.

Must-win clash against Togo awaits

The draw means Ghana’s qualification hopes now rest on their final Group B fixture against Togo, where victory will be essential if they are to finish the tournament on a positive note.

With the group stage approaching its conclusion, the Black Satellites know that another slip-up could end their campaign.

Valuable preparation for continental challenge

Although the WAFU B tournament doubles as the qualifying competition for the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana have already secured their place at the continental finals as hosts.

As a result, the competition offers an important opportunity for the coaching staff to assess the squad against high-level opposition and continue building chemistry ahead of next year’s tournament.
