Keagan Dolly training with Hope FC as veteran midfielder keeps overseas options open

Keagan Dolly is maintaining his fitness with Motsepe Foundation Championship side Hope FC while he evaluates offers for the next stage of his career, with a move abroad still firmly on the table.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, who left Cape Town City at the end of last season, has been working with the second-tier club in recent weeks but has not signed a deal.

A source close to the 33-year-old told KickOff that Dolly is using Hope FC primarily as a base to stay in shape while he considers where to play next.

“He’s just training with them and keeping fit. The club gave him the opportunity to train while he weighs up his options,” the source said.

The same source stressed that, despite his current work with Hope FC, Dolly has yet to commit his future to the side.

Hope FC opportunity while search continues —

Hope FC, who compete in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, have allowed Dolly to join their sessions as he looks to secure his next contract following his departure from Cape Town City.

“It’s a bit difficult to find a team in South Africa at this stage, so he’s just making sure he’s ready when the opportunity comes,” the source added, suggesting the current domestic market has made an immediate move within South Africa more challenging.

While Hope FC could yet become a realistic destination, those close to the player insist nothing has been finalised and that all options remain open.

Overseas move “definitely a possibility” –

The informant also revealed that a transfer outside South Africa is being seriously considered as Dolly weighs up the next chapter of his career.

“Going outside South Africa is definitely a possibility. He can still play outside the country, so we will see how everything goes soon,” the source said.

Dolly, a former Bafana Bafana attacking midfielder, is understood to be in no rush to make a hasty decision, preferring instead to ensure he is in peak condition should an attractive offer arrive from abroad or within the Premier Soccer League.

Cape Town City exit after play-off push

Dolly joined Cape Town City and played a role in helping the Citizens reach the PSL Promotion/Relegation Playoffs last season.

However, City were unable to clinch a return to the Betway Premiership and subsequently released several senior players, with Dolly among the experienced figures to depart.

Since then, the left-footed midfielder has focused on maintaining match fitness and staying ready for immediate involvement once his future is resolved.

Short-term focus on fitness

For now, Dolly’s priority is to remain physically prepared by training regularly with Hope FC while his representatives explore both local and international possibilities.

A decision on his next club is expected in the coming weeks as the former Bafana Bafana international continues to assess the most suitable opportunity for the latter stages of his career.
