Senegalese defender Moustapha Diop joins RFC Seraing on loan from FC Metz
Senegalese defender Moustapha Diop has joined Belgian side RFC Seraing on loan from FC Metz as the young centre-back looks to continue his development and gain more first-team experience.
The 20-year-old has moved to Metz’s partner club in Belgium after struggling to secure regular playing opportunities since arriving in France.
The loan deal will give the Senegal youth international the chance to develop further and compete in a more demanding environment.
Diop joined FC Metz in September 2025 from Senegalese academy Génération Foot, a club known for producing talented players.
However, since making the move to Lorraine, the defender has found opportunities limited and has been unable to establish himself as a regular member of the squad.
The switch to RFC Seraing is expected to provide him with valuable playing time as he continues his progression.
The Belgian club identified defensive reinforcement as a priority and believes Diop fits the profile they were searching for.
RFC Seraing general manager and sporting coordinator Roy Eliott Lowy welcomed the arrival of the Senegalese defender, highlighting the qualities he will bring to the team.
“Moustapha is the profile we were looking for. He will bring us power, physical presence, and personality in a defensive area where we wanted to reinforce,” he stated.
The Belgian side hope Diop’s physical qualities and defensive ability will strengthen their backline while also allowing the young player to continue his own football development.
For Diop, the move represents an important opportunity to gain regular competitive experience and continue improving after his transition from Senegal to European football.
The defender will now focus on adapting to his new surroundings at RFC Seraing and proving himself during his loan spell.
With time on the pitch expected to increase, the Senegalese youngster will aim to make the most of the opportunity and work towards returning to FC Metz with greater experience and confidence.
