Crystal Palace’s move for French-Congolese defender Chrislain Matsima stalls

Crystal Palace have suffered a setback in their defensive recruitment plans after their move for Augsburg centre-back Chrislain Matsima reportedly stalled over disagreements on the transfer fee.

The Eagles had identified the 24-year-old as the preferred replacement for Maxence Lacroix, who is closing in on a move to Chelsea in a deal reportedly worth £52 million.

With the Matsima deal now uncertain, Palace have reportedly placed Neom SC defender Nathan Zeze among their possible alternatives.

The 21-year-old is attracting interest after impressing in Saudi Arabia and is understood to be open to a return to European football.

Zeze previously attracted attention from Palace, Bournemouth and Liverpool before deciding to move to the Saudi Pro League last summer. However, the defender’s desire for a European return could give the Eagles renewed hope of securing his signature.
