Moussa Djenepo: Mali winger linked with Panetolikos move after Esteghlal exit
Moussa Djenepo, the Mali left winger currently without a club after leaving Esteghlal FC, is being linked with a move to Greek Super League 1 side Panetolikos. The 28-year-old, valued at around €900,000, is considering his next step following the end of his spell in Iran and is understood to be on the radar of the club from Agrinio as they look to strengthen their wide options.
Djenepo joined Esteghlal in August 2025 on a free transfer from Standard Liege but departed at the start of July 2026, becoming a free agent and available without a transfer fee. His situation makes him an accessible target for Panetolikos, who are seeking experience at the top level and greater attacking depth in wide areas ahead of the new campaign.
The Bamako-born winger has featured in several major leagues, most notably the Premier League, where he made 73 appearances for Southampton after a €15.7m move from Standard Liege in 2019. Before his switch to England, he had emerged in Belgium, winning the Belgian Cup with Standard in 2018 and later returning there in 2023 for a reported €3.5m fee after his time at St Mary’s.
Djenepo has also had a spell in Turkey with Antalyaspor in the Super Lig and brings continental experience from the Europa League. His most recent European club stint came during his second period at Standard Liege before his move to Esteghlal.
For now, Djenepo remains unattached following his July 2026 exit from Esteghlal, with Panetolikos exploring the possibility of offering the Mali international a route back into European football.
