Ahmed El Shenawy, a refereeing expert, commended the performance of Egyptian international referee Mohamed Adel in the quarter-final clash between Ivory Coast and Mali in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The match witnessed several controversial refereeing decisions, including awarding a penalty to the Malian national team and the expulsion of Ivorian Odilon Kossonou.
In an exclusive statement to “Al-Masry Al-Youm,” El Shenawy said, “Mohamed Adel delivered an outstanding performance in terms of fitness and accurate decision-making.”
He added, “The penalty was correct, and the card situation was accurate.
Our referee did not succumb to the technical pressures and the atmosphere inside the stadium.”
El Shenawy emphasized that Egyptian referees would not officiate in the final match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to their management of the opening game.
