Eli Junior Kroupi ruled out for four months after foot surgery in major Bournemouth blow

Bournemouth have been dealt a significant setback ahead of the new Premier League season after star forward Eli Junior Kroupi underwent surgery on a foot injury that is expected to sideline him for up to four months.

The 20-year-old suffered the injury during the Cherries’ pre-season training camp in Austria and was forced to return to England for further assessment. Following specialist examinations, Kroupi underwent surgery on Wednesday and is now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, with an expected return around October or November.

Massive blow after breakthrough campaign

Kroupi’s absence comes at the worst possible time for Bournemouth after the French youngster emerged as the club’s standout attacking player last season. In his first Premier League campaign, he finished as the club’s leading scorer with 13 goals, underlining his growing importance to the side.

The striker also ended the season in outstanding form, scoring five times in Bournemouth’s final eight league matches as the club secured a sixth-place finish and booked a historic place in the UEFA Europa League under former head coach Andoni Iraola.

His impressive performances also attracted interest from several European heavyweights, including Arsenal and Barcelona. Despite the growing speculation, Bournemouth have remained firm in their position, insisting they have no intention of entertaining offers for one of their brightest young talents.

Summer signing could ease attacking concerns

Although Kroupi’s injury leaves a major gap in Bournemouth’s attack, the club had already strengthened their frontline earlier in the transfer window by signing 22-year-old striker Alvaro Rodriguez from Elche in a deal worth £21 million.

The new arrival is now expected to shoulder greater responsibility as Bournemouth prepare for a demanding campaign that includes both domestic and European commitments under new manager Marco Rose.

Kroupi joined Bournemouth from French side Lorient in January 2025 before remaining with the Ligue 1 club for the rest of that season. The move was facilitated through the Black Knight Football multiclub group, which owns both clubs.

The highly rated forward has represented France at various youth levels, earning caps up to the Under-21 side, and was part of the squad that reached the final of the 2024 UEFA European Under-19 Championship.

Bournemouth will kick off their new Premier League campaign away to Manchester City on Sunday, August 23, but they will do so without one of their most influential attacking players as Kroupi begins his rehabilitation.

The club will hope the young Frenchman returns in time to play a key role during the busy autumn schedule as they balance Premier League and Europa League commitments.
