Augsburg end Chrislain Matsima transfer talks with Crystal Palace

Chrislain Matsima’s planned move from Augsburg to Crystal Palace has collapsed for now after the two clubs failed to agree on the final contract details.

Reports say the sticking points were bonus payments and the way the fee would be structured, even though the total package had been valued at up to 30 million euros.

Augsburg chose to end the talks on Wednesday rather than wait for Palace to shift their position. The Premier League side did not move on the key financial points, and that left the German club with little reason to keep negotiating.

Matsima has already been told about the decision and will now rejoin his teammates. The 24-year-old defender is set to travel with Augsburg to their training camp on Saturday, which suggests the club are preparing for life with him in the squad at least for the time being.

The French centre-back is said to have handled the situation professionally throughout the process. At this stage, Augsburg no longer expect a fresh bid from Palace, despite hopes just a few days ago that a deal could still be finished.
