Roma intensify pursuit of Morocco winger Abde Ezzalzouli

AS Roma have stepped up their pursuit of Morocco international Abde Ezzalzouli by preparing an improved offer for the Real Betis winger ahead of the new Serie A season.

According to transfer expert Matteo Moretto, the Italian club are ready to submit a package worth €35 million, plus a further €5 million in performance-related bonuses, as they look to persuade Betis to sell one of their key attacking players.

Speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Moretto said Roma are increasing their efforts to reach an agreement, although negotiations between the two clubs remain ongoing.

Betis holding firm on valuation

The report says Betis are seeking a fee closer to €45 million, despite the Moroccan’s reported €60 million release clause.

Talks are expected to continue over the coming days as Roma attempt to bridge the gap and secure the services of the 23-year-old.

Roma’s interest follows Ezzalzouli’s outstanding campaign in Spain, where he established himself as one of Betis’ most influential players.

Breakthrough season attracts growing interest

The Atlas Lions winger enjoyed the most productive season of his career, contributing 15 goals and 13 assists across all competitions while making more than 3,100 minutes of appearances.

His displays are understood to have impressed new Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who is keen to add a direct and energetic left-sided attacker capable of thriving in his high-intensity tactical system.

Fitness concerns remain

Despite his impressive form, Ezzalzouli’s injury history remains a factor in Roma’s assessment.

The winger missed part of last season after suffering a medial collateral ligament injury, which also ruled him out of Morocco’s FIFA World Cup campaign. He also endured several injury setbacks during the 2024-25 season that affected his availability.

Roma are expected to continue evaluating the financial implications of the deal, with sporting director Tony D’Amico also monitoring other attacking targets before making a final decision.

Premier League club Newcastle United have also been linked with the Moroccan international, but current reports indicate Roma are leading the race for his signature.

Neither Roma nor Real Betis has publicly commented on the reported negotiations, and no agreement has yet been reached.
