Chidozie Awaziem: Nigeria Defender Linked with Konyaspor Switch from Nantes
Chidozie Awaziem, the Nigeria and Portugal-eligible centre-back currently at Ligue 2 side Nantes, is being linked with a move to Turkish Super Lig club Konyaspor.
The 29-year-old defender is under contract with the French club until 30 June 2028, but there is growing speculation he could be allowed to leave before then, with the likelihood of a deal currently rated at 47%. Konyaspor are understood to be exploring defensive reinforcements, and Awaziem’s reported market value of around €2.5 million may place him within reach for the Turkish side.
Awaziem has been part of a Nantes squad now operating in France’s second tier, a context that could make negotiations more fluid if both clubs see an opportunity in the market. A move to Konyaspor would offer the Nigerian a return to a top-flight environment in the Super Lig.
The centre-back’s dual Nigerian and Portuguese nationality also adds flexibility in terms of registration rules, which may increase his appeal to Konyaspor as they look to reshape their squad. His experience in a major European league, combined with his age profile, positions him as a ready-made option rather than a developmental signing.
For now, Awaziem remains a Nantes player with two years left on his deal, and any transfer would require the French club’s agreement as well as a satisfactory offer from Konyaspor.
