Hull City submit €18m offer for Senegal defender Nobel Mendy after Vallecano breakthrough

Newly promoted Premier League side Hull City have reportedly stepped up their efforts to strengthen their defence by making a move for highly rated Senegalese centre-back Nobel Mendy.

The 21-year-old defender has quickly attracted attention following his impressive performances, despite only recently making his permanent move to Spanish club Rayo Vallecano.

Mendy joined Rayo Vallecano on a permanent basis this summer after initially arriving on loan from Real Betis. The Madrid-based club secured his services for a reported fee of €3 million, but his rapid rise has already sparked interest from abroad.

According to reports, Hull City have identified the Senegal international as a key target as they prepare for life in the Premier League and look to reinforce their defensive options ahead of the new season.

The English club are said to have made their intentions clear by submitting an offer worth €18 million in an attempt to convince Rayo Vallecano to sell the young defender.

Hull’s proposal represents a significant potential profit for Rayo, who only invested €3 million to secure Mendy’s signature this summer. Real Betis are also reportedly entitled to 20% of any future transfer fee due to a sell-on clause included in the agreement.

Rayo Vallecano have not yet responded to Hull City’s offer, but the proposal is expected to test their resolve as they weigh up whether to cash in on one of their most valuable young assets or retain him as part of their plans.

Despite the financial appeal of the deal, Rayo may be reluctant to lose Mendy so soon after making his move permanent, particularly given his potential to develop into a top-level defender.

For Hull City, signing the Senegalese defender would represent a major statement of intent as they prepare for their return to the Premier League. The club view Mendy as a player capable of providing strength, pace and long-term stability at the heart of their defence.
