Norwegian forward Sebastian Pedersen calls Orlando Pirates move a ‘once-in-a-lifetime opportunity’

New Orlando Pirates signing Sebastian Pedersen has described his transfer to the South African giants as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” saying the club’s stature made it impossible to turn down the chance to play in the Betway Premiership.

The 27-year-old Norwegian-born forward is the latest addition to the Buccaneers’ squad ahead of the new season, with his arrival surprising many supporters and pundits after Pirates reached an agreement with Norwegian club Sogndal.

Speaking after completing the move, Pedersen admitted he initially had reservations about relocating to South Africa but said learning more about Orlando Pirates and the country quickly changed his perspective.

“This feels like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It is such a huge club that I couldn’t pass up the chance when it arose,” said Pedersen.

“At first, I was a bit skeptical, but the more I’ve learned about the club and life in South Africa, the more excited I’ve become. I am very grateful that Sogndal reached an agreement with Orlando Pirates.”

The striker also took time to thank Sogndal, expressing his appreciation to the club and its supporters for the role they played in his development.

“I’ve had an incredible time at Sogndal. I felt welcome from the very first second, and the local community embraced me.”

“It has been a fantastic place to be, both on and off the pitch. I’m left with many great memories and am grateful for my time here.”

Pedersen now turns his attention to life with the Buccaneers, where expectations will be high as the club looks to challenge for major honours during the 2026/27 campaign. However, the striker is unlikely to feature in Orlando Pirates’ opening Betway Premiership fixture against Milford FC this Saturday as he continues to await the completion of his work permit.
