Alaa Ghram: Tunisia and Shakhtar Donetsk defender linked with Genoa move

Tunisia centre-back Alaa Ghram, currently at Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk, is being linked with a move to Serie A side Genoa as the Italian club assess defensive options for the new season.

Genoa are understood to be monitoring the 25-year-old after his first campaigns in European football, with Ghram under long-term contract at Shakhtar until 30 June 2029. Any deal is therefore expected to require a significant negotiation with the Ukrainian club, who invested in the defender only two years ago.

Ghram joined Shakhtar from CS Sfaxien on 1 July 2024 in a transfer worth €2m and has since established himself as part of a squad that has collected domestic silverware. He was involved as Shakhtar claimed the Ukrainian Cup in 2024-25 before going on to secure the league title in 2025-26.

Standing at 1.90m and operating primarily as a right-footed centre-back, Ghram has built up experience across league and continental competition, including appearances in the Ukrainian Premier Liga and the Champions League. His current market valuation is around €1.5m, a figure likely to rise if Shakhtar choose to drive a hard bargain.

Before moving to Ukraine, Ghram made his name with CS Sfaxien, winning the Tunisian Cup twice with the club. That record, allied to his exposure to European competition with Shakhtar, has contributed to Serie A interest.

For now, Ghram remains a Shakhtar player with three years left on his deal, and the Ukrainian champions are under no pressure to sell, leaving Genoa to decide whether to turn their interest into a formal offer.
