Relebohile Mofokeng pockets $28,000 after PSL Awards clean sweep

Relebohile Mofokeng walked away with more than just silverware after dominating the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League (PSL) Awards on Monday night, pocketing an estimated R500,000 (about $28,000) following a clean sweep of South African football’s biggest individual honours.

The former Orlando Pirates winger is expected to receive the bumper payday if the PSL maintained the same prize-money structure from last season, with his remarkable campaign ending in both personal glory and a substantial financial reward.

Having already secured a move to Belgian club Union SG and earned a place in Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Mofokeng added another major milestone by emerging as the standout winner at the league’s annual awards ceremony.

Three major awards in one night

The 20-year-old claimed the coveted PSL Footballer of the Season award ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena and former Orlando Pirates teammate Oswin Appollis.

He followed that by winning the Betway Premiership Players’ Player of the Season, beating Appollis and Kamogelo Sebelebele, before completing a memorable treble with the Betway Premiership Young Player of the Season award after edging TS Galaxy’s Sihle Mahlambi and Golden Arrows youngster Isaac Cissé.

The clean sweep capped an outstanding final season in the PSL before his move to Europe.

How the prize money adds up

Last season, the Footballer of the Season award carried prize money of R250,000 (about $14,000), while the Betway Premiership Players’ Player of the Season winner received R200,000 (about $11,000).

The Young Player of the Season accolade was worth R50,000 (about $2,800).

Should those figures remain unchanged for the 2025/26 awards, Mofokeng would collect a combined R500,000 (about $28,000) from the three honours.

Reward for a sensational campaign

The awards were the latest recognition of a season in which Mofokeng established himself as one of the Betway Premiership’s brightest stars.

The winger scored 10 goals and registered eight assists in 27 league appearances for Orlando Pirates, playing a pivotal role in the club’s campaign before sealing his transfer to Union SG.

His performances also earned him a place in Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Monday night’s ceremony therefore marked more than individual recognition. It also capped a life-changing year in which Mofokeng’s rise from PSL star to European-bound talent was rewarded with both South Africa’s highest individual honours and a half-a-million-rand payday.
