Lois Openda: Belgium striker joins Lyon on loan from Juventus in €3.5m deal

Belgium forward Lois Openda has joined Lyon on loan from Juventus in a season-long move worth a €3.5m loan fee.

The 26-year-old centre-forward, who was born in Liege and also has Moroccan heritage, has signed on at the Groupama Stadium until 30 June 2027, with his loan scheduled to end with a return to the Italian club. Openda becomes Lyon’s latest attacking recruit as they look to strengthen their options in Ligue 1.

Openda only completed a permanent transfer to Juventus from RB Leipzig on 1 July 2026 for €42.75m, having previously spent the 2025-26 season on loan with the Turin side. His move to France marks a swift change of environment after that deal, with Lyon paying a fee to secure his services for the campaign.

The right-footed striker has built a strong reputation across Europe’s top leagues, scoring regularly in Germany, the Netherlands and France. He has 33 goals and 16 assists in the Bundesliga, 28 goals in the Eredivisie and an impressive 21 goals in 38 Ligue 1 appearances from his spell at Lens, where he arrived from Club Brugge in 2022. He has also featured in the Champions League, Conference League and domestic cups in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, France and Italy.

At international and club level Openda has collected silverware, winning the Belgian league title and Super Cup with Club Brugge and the German Super Cup with RB Leipzig.

Openda will spend the 2026-27 season with Lyon on loan from Juventus, with his contract in France running to June 2027 before the agreement expires.
