FC Basel show interest in Ivory Coast striker Oumar Diakité

Swiss Super League side FC Basel have reportedly identified Ivory Coast international Oumar Diakité as a potential summer signing, with the Stade de Reims forward emerging as one of the club’s attacking targets.

According to Africafoot, Basel have made enquiries about the 22-year-old striker as they explore options to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

While no formal offer has yet been submitted to Stade de Reims, the report states that initial contact has already been established between the Swiss club and the French side regarding the player’s situation.

Diakité’s future has become a subject of growing interest following an impressive loan spell in Belgium, where he showcased his attacking qualities with Cercle Brugge.

The Ivorian forward made 25 appearances during his time in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, scoring seven goals while earning praise for his energy, movement and ability to contribute both in and out of possession.

His performances are understood to have reinforced Basel’s interest as the club looks to add greater depth to its attacking department.

The striker is under contract with Stade de Reims until 30 June 2028, although the French club’s relegation to Ligue 2 has fuelled speculation that several players could leave during the current transfer window.

According to the report, Diakité recently declined an approach from Championship side Lincoln City, leaving his immediate future unresolved as interest from other clubs continues.

Transfermarkt currently values the Ivory Coast international at €5 million, a figure that could present a financial challenge for Basel if negotiations progress. Nevertheless, the Swiss club remain interested in monitoring the situation.

Despite being only 22 years old, Diakité already possesses considerable international experience.

The forward, who developed through Stade de Reims’ academy system, was part of the Ivory Coast squad that won the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. He also represented his country at the FIFA World Cup, adding valuable experience to his growing career.

With Reims preparing for life in Ligue 2 and several clubs keeping a close watch on his situation, Diakité appears to have a number of options ahead of him this summer.
