FC Basel join race for Ivory Coast striker Oumar Diakité amid uncertain Reims future

Ivory Coast international Oumar Diakité could be heading towards a summer exit from French club Stade de Reims, with Swiss giants FC Basel reportedly showing interest in securing the services of the promising forward.

The 22-year-old striker’s future has become increasingly uncertain following Reims’ relegation to Ligue 2 and his successful loan spell with Belgian side Cercle Brugge during the 2025/26 season.

Diakité spent the campaign in the Belgian Pro League, where he enjoyed regular playing time and showcased his attacking qualities, scoring seven goals for Cercle Brugge. His performances have attracted attention from several clubs looking to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.

According to reports, FC Basel have emerged as one of the clubs monitoring the situation of the Ivorian forward. The Swiss Super League side have reportedly made enquiries regarding Diakité’s availability and are exploring the possibility of bringing him to Switzerland.

However, no official offer has been submitted by Basel to Stade de Reims at this stage. The French club remains in control of the situation, with Diakité still under contract until June 30, 2028.

The striker had previously been linked with a move to England, with Championship side Lincoln City reportedly making an approach. However, Diakité is said to have rejected the opportunity, leaving the door open for other clubs to make their interest known.
