Mounsef Bakrar: Algerian striker joins Al Ahly from Dinamo Zagreb in €3m deal

Algerian centre-forward Mounsef Bakrar has joined Al Ahly from Dinamo Zagreb in a €3m permanent transfer.

The 25-year-old, born in Setif, leaves the Croatian champions for the Egyptian Premier League side after a highly successful spell in Zagreb, where he established himself as a prolific cup performer. A right-footed striker standing at 1.83m, Bakrar arrives in Cairo with experience of European competition and domestic silverware.

Bakrar moves on the back of a standout 2025-26 campaign in Croatia, during which he helped Dinamo secure a league and cup double. He finished as top scorer in the Croatian Cup, hitting five goals in the competition as Dinamo lifted the trophy. His performances contributed to his market value rising to €3m, matching the fee Al Ahly have now paid to secure his services.

The forward joined Dinamo Zagreb from MLS side New York City in August 2025 for €1m, having previously made the step into European football with NK Istra after leaving ES Setif. That progression has now taken him to one of Africa’s most prominent clubs, with Al Ahly adding a forward who has already adapted to different leagues and playing styles.

Bakrar, who can lead the line as an orthodox centre-forward, links up with his new club ahead of the 2026-27 campaign as a full transfer from Dinamo Zagreb to Al Ahly for a €3m fee.
