Mario Lemina reveals why he asked Wolves to sign his younger brother Noha

Gabon international Mario Lemina has revealed that he personally asked Wolverhampton Wanderers to sign his younger brother, Noha Lemina, following the death of their father, saying the move was motivated by both football and family.

Speaking to Canal+ Afrique, the former Wolverhampton midfielder reflected on the difficult period his family endured after losing their father in December 2023.

He explained that the loss had a particularly profound impact on Noha, who was then playing for Italian second-tier side Sampdoria.

Mario said watching his younger brother struggle emotionally convinced him to take action.

“It was hard to see his little brother suffer like that. Noha was the youngest. His father was his compass, his confidant. He was always with him.”

The experienced midfielder said the emotional toll on Noha became increasingly evident as he tried to cope with the loss while continuing his football career.

Concerned about his brother’s wellbeing, Mario approached Wolverhampton with a request to bring Noha to the Premier League club.

“I can’t thank Wolverhampton enough for bringing my brother in,” he said.

“It was definitely me who went to ask them to sign him. I told them it was difficult and that I was asking them to use their wildcard to sign him.”

Mario explained that his request was not based solely on family circumstances, insisting that Noha had already demonstrated enough ability to attract the club’s attention.

“To be honest, they had already scouted him, so I did it because he had talent, but also because he needed me.”

The move allowed the two brothers to be together during one of the most challenging periods of their lives, with Mario believing his presence could help Noha regain stability following the family’s loss.

Although Noha is no longer with Wolverhampton, he has continued his career in Switzerland, where he now plays for Yverdon Sport.

The young midfielder has made 16 appearances for the Swiss club this season as he continues his development.
