Mohamed Fathi: Egypt midfielder joins Wadi Degla on free transfer from Bank El Ahly

Egyptian defensive midfielder Mohamed Fathi has joined Wadi Degla on a free transfer from Bank El Ahly, signing a contract with the Cairo club until 30 June 2028.

The 32-year-old moves across the Egyptian Premier League after his deal with Bank El Ahly came to an end, allowing Wadi Degla to secure his services without a transfer fee. The move was finalised on 27 July 2026, ahead of the new domestic campaign.

Fathi, who stands at 1.78m and plays predominantly as a holding midfielder, is valued at around €200,000 and is expected to add experience and positional discipline at the base of Wadi Degla’s midfield. A right-footed player, he has built his career in Egyptian football and now links up with a club looking to strengthen its spine with proven domestic performers.

Born on 2 February 1994, Fathi joins Wadi Degla at an age where his reading of the game and tactical awareness are likely to be key attributes. His arrival offers additional depth in front of the defence and provides another option for breaking up opposition attacks and recycling possession.

The agreement keeps Fathi at Wadi Degla for at least two seasons, with his contract running through to the summer of 2028 following his free transfer from league rivals Bank El Ahly.
