Eloghosa Newton Sunday: Nigerian forward joins Unipomezia from Verona U18
Nigerian centre-forward Eloghosa Newton Sunday has joined Italian side Unipomezia from Verona U18, making the step up from youth football into the senior ranks of Serie D – Group F.
The 17-year-old moves within Italy after developing in Verona’s under-18 set-up, and now links up with a club competing in the national fourth tier. His arrival strengthens Unipomezia’s attacking options as they prepare for the forthcoming Serie D campaign.
Sunday has been registered primarily as a central striker and will now have the opportunity to test himself in a senior environment for the first time. The switch represents a significant transition from age-group competition in the Italian youth structure to regular men’s football.
Having been part of Verona’s under-18 squad, Sunday has been used to a structured development pathway, and Unipomezia will look to harness that grounding in a more competitive league setting. Serie D – Group F is known for its physical and tactical demands, offering the Nigerian forward a new stage on which to refine his game.
The move also continues the trend of young overseas players using Italy’s youth system as a springboard into the country’s professional and semi-professional leagues. For Unipomezia, recruiting a teenage centre-forward from a recognised youth system underlines their intent to refresh the squad with emerging talent.
Sunday’s transfer from Verona U18 to Unipomezia has been completed ahead of the 2026–27 Serie D – F season, with the Nigerian officially joining the Lazio-based club’s senior set-up.
