Ethan Nwaneri’s brother Emerson signs Arsenal deal as Gunners unveil new academy stars

Arsenal have unveiled their latest group of academy scholars, with Ethan Nwaneri’s younger brother Emerson among nine promising youngsters handed first-year scholarship terms ahead of the 2026-27 season.

The 15-year-old midfielder has not only secured a place in Arsenal’s youth setup but has also agreed a professional contract that will officially begin when he turns 17 in August 2027.

Emerson Nwaneri’s rise through the academy has accelerated over the past year, with the teenager making significant progress after breaking into Arsenal’s Under-18 side during the second half of last season.

The England Under-15 international, who primarily operates in midfield but can also feature at right-back, impressed enough to earn opportunities beyond his age group. He made his debut for Arsenal’s Under-21 team and also featured for the Under-19 side in the UEFA Youth League.

His standout moment came in November when he scored the winning goal in the Premier League Under-16 National finals, helping Arsenal secure silverware at youth level.

Ethan Nwaneri dreams of Arsenal first-team reunion with brother

Emerson’s development has attracted attention partly because of his connection to his older brother Ethan, who has already become one of Arsenal’s most exciting young talents.

Ethan, who made history as the youngest player ever to feature in the Premier League when he debuted for Arsenal at 15, has continued his rapid progression and was recently involved with England’s senior squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Reflecting on his younger brother’s qualities during the 2024-25 season, Ethan revealed that while the pair share a close relationship, their personalities are different.

“He’s a midfielder, but he can play right-back as well. We’re really close, but I wouldn’t say we are that similar. He’s probably more outgoing than me — he’s the loud one!” Ethan said.

The Arsenal forward also admitted that seeing both brothers represent the club’s first team in the future would be a special ambition.

“There are three years between us so it would be really cool if we could both play in the Arsenal first-team together one day. We’ve spoken about that a bit and what that would be like, it’s something to aim for,” he added.

Arsenal continue investment in academy talent

Emerson Nwaneri headlines a new group of academy prospects Arsenal believe can continue the club’s strong tradition of developing young players.

The other first-year scholars confirmed for the 2026-27 campaign are Hakeem Abubakar, a centre-back/left-back; left-back Elyon Mbala; centre-back Daniel McCarron; forward Jayden Oba; midfielder Theo Odaji-Ukueko; centre-back Angelinou Pedro; midfielder Charlie Purdy; and winger Joshua Sesay.

Several members of the incoming class have already enjoyed success with Arsenal’s youth teams.

Oba and Sesay were part of the Under-16 squad that won the Premier League Under-16 National finals last season alongside Nwaneri. In the semi-final victory over Blackburn Rovers, Oba provided two assists for Nwaneri, while Sesay also found the net.

The latest intake reflects Arsenal’s continued focus on developing players through the academy system, with several youngsters already gaining experience above their age groups.
