Maghnes Akliouche sets sights on PSG move as Liverpool step up pursuit
Maghnes Akliouche has made Paris Saint-Germain his preferred destination this summer, despite Liverpool entering the race with a more lucrative proposal for AS Monaco.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder, who enjoyed a breakthrough season in Ligue 1, has decided he wants to join the French champions and has already given his approval to a move to the Parc des Princes, according to Foot Mercato.
Liverpool have approached Monaco with a willingness to submit a higher financial offer than PSG in an effort to sway the Principality club. The Premier League side’s proposal is understood to be attractive from a financial standpoint for Monaco’s hierarchy.
However, Akliouche’s stance is emerging as the decisive factor. Even with the appeal of Liverpool’s project and the prospect of playing in the Premier League, the France-born, Franco-Algerian midfielder is prioritising a switch to Paris.
PSG make Akliouche a priority target
Akliouche’s performances for Monaco last season have elevated him into one of PSG’s key transfer targets for this window. His profile has been admired for several months by both Luis Campos and head coach Luis Enrique, who view him as a strong fit for the club’s plans.
The interest from Paris prompted a swift response from Liverpool, who are prepared to outbid PSG to secure Monaco’s agreement. That financial power has created genuine competition between the two clubs for the player’s signature.
Yet, despite that pressure, Akliouche remains determined to join PSG, a stance that could heavily influence how the negotiations unfold. With the player having made his preference clear, the focus of the saga has now shifted to whether Monaco and PSG can reach a compromise on the transfer fee.
Talks ongoing between PSG and Monaco
While Akliouche has set his heart on Paris, a deal is not yet close to completion. Discussions between PSG and Monaco are continuing as the clubs work towards an agreement on the overall value of the operation.
Monaco, now fully aware that Liverpool are ready to pay more, are in a strong bargaining position. PSG must convince their Ligue 1 rivals to sell, knowing that the English club’s bid could be more financially attractive.
Barring a dramatic twist, the outcome is expected to hinge on the negotiating strength of the two clubs rather than any change of mind from the player, who has already expressed his wish to play in PSG colours.
Contract and valuation
Akliouche is under contract with AS Monaco until June 2028, which further reinforces Monaco’s leverage in talks. His current market value is listed at €50m by Transfermarkt.
He is reported to earn an annual salary of €1,150,000, equivalent to 747,500,000 FCFA, at Monaco.
For now, Liverpool’s interest ensures Monaco have serious competition for one of their key assets, but Akliouche’s clear desire to join PSG remains at the heart of one of this summer’s most closely watched transfer stories.
