Taddeo Lwanga: Uganda midfielder joins AFC Leopards from Vipers

Uganda defensive midfielder Taddeo Lwanga has joined Kenyan giants AFC Leopards from Vipers, bolstering the Nairobi club’s options at the heart of midfield. The 32-year-old, born in Kampala, makes the switch after a title-winning campaign in Uganda and moves into a new chapter of his career in the Kenyan game.

Lwanga has been a key figure for Vipers, helping the club secure the Ugandan championship in the 2025-26 season. His arrival gives AFC Leopards an experienced shield in front of the back four, with the Ugandan known for operating primarily in a holding role at the base of midfield.

This latest move continues a well-travelled career across East and North-East Africa. Before returning to Vipers in 2025, Lwanga spent time with Rwanda’s APR FC and Djibouti’s AS Arta/Solar7, having earlier featured for Tanzanian side Simba SC and Egyptian outfit Tanta SC. He had first joined Vipers from SC Villa Jogoo in 2017 after emerging domestically with Express.

Lwanga also brings significant continental experience to AFC Leopards. Across the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, he has accumulated more than 30 appearances, adding valuable exposure to high-intensity knockout and group-stage fixtures. He has also featured regularly in the Uganda Premier League and in domestic cup competition in Egypt, underlining his familiarity with different tactical styles and conditions.

Standing at 1.82m and operating as a specialist defensive midfielder, Lwanga now links up with AFC Leopards after completing his move from Ugandan champions Vipers on 27 July 2026.
