Orlando Pirates sign Norwegian striker Sebastian Pedersen ahead of new season

South African champions Orlando Pirates have strengthened their attacking department with the signing of Norwegian striker Sebastian Pedersen from Sogndal Fotball ahead of the start of the new Premiership season.

The 27-year-old joins the Buccaneers on the eve of their Premier Soccer League title defence, with Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side set to kick off the 2026-27 campaign against newly promoted Milford FC.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of striker Sebastian Pedersen from Norwegian side Sogndal Fotball,” the club said.

The Soweto giants revealed that Pedersen has signed a two-year contract, with the club retaining the option to extend his stay by an additional season should he meet expectations.

“The 27-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year deal, with the Club holding an option to extend for a further season.

“He becomes the newest addition to Abdeslam Ouaddou’s squad as the Buccaneers prepare for a competitive season ahead.”

Pirates believe the Norwegian forward possesses the qualities needed to enhance their attack as they aim to defend their Betway Premiership crown while also challenging in domestic cup competitions and on the continental stage.

Pedersen joins the South African champions from Sogndal Fotball, a club widely recognised in Norway for producing talented players capable of progressing to the highest levels of the game.

Highlighting his background, Pirates described the striker as a product of one of Norway’s most respected football development systems.

“Pedersen arrives from one of Norwegian football’s great talent factories. The blonde bomber is cut from that cloth, having featured at junior national team level from U15 all the way to U21.”

The club also praised the striker’s natural goalscoring instincts, describing him as a clinical finisher who thrives inside the penalty area rather than relying on physical power.

“In terms of his style of play, Pedersen is considered a one-touch finisher rather than a bulldozer.”

His record in front of goal certainly supports that assessment. The Norwegian arrives in South Africa having scored 51 goals in his last 117 appearances, a return that underlines his consistency and efficiency in the final third.

Pedersen’s arrival adds further firepower to Ouaddou’s squad as Orlando Pirates seek to build on last season’s success and maintain their status as the team to beat in South African football.
