Abdoulaye Faye returns to partial Bayer Leverkusen training after calf scare
Abdoulaye Faye has received a welcome fitness boost at Bayer Leverkusen, with the young defender able to take part in large parts of Monday’s intense team session.
The 21-year-old had been forced off in the recent 3-1 friendly win over Offenbacher Kickers after feeling pain in his calf following a duel shortly before half-time.
Leverkusen have now confirmed that, while Faye is not yet ready for full training load, he has already resumed significant portions of work with the squad. That marks an encouraging step in his recovery and suggests the problem was more of a minor scare than a serious injury. The club’s medical and coaching staff will continue to monitor his response as they carefully increase his workload.
This progress is important with more friendlies and a training camp on the horizon. Leverkusen face KRC Genk and Rot-Weiss Essen next, before heading to their camp in the Weimarer Land, and a fit Faye offers extra depth in defence for those preparations. For the player himself, getting back on the grass quickly helps maintain momentum in pre-season and keeps him in contention for minutes as the new campaign approaches.
