Mohamed Sami: Egyptian defender joins Biyala on free transfer

Egyptian centre-back Mohamed Sami has joined Biyala on a free transfer from Sherben as the club moves to strengthen its defensive options with experienced reinforcements.

The 34-year-old arrives after a season with Sherben, continuing a well-travelled career within Egyptian football. A tall and versatile defender at 1.88m who is comfortable on both feet, Sami is expected to add physical presence and organisational know-how at the heart of Biyala’s back line.

Sami’s switch marks the latest step in a career spent largely in domestic competition. Before returning to Sherben in 2025, he had spells at A. Damanhour and Tersana, having previously represented El Dakhlia and El Mahalla. His move to Tersana in 2022 also came on a free transfer, reflecting the consistent demand for his experience across several clubs.

The defender’s repeated signings by Sherben and El Mahalla earlier in his career underline his reliability at this level, with both clubs having brought him back for further stints. That background gives Biyala a player familiar with varying tactical demands and pressure situations in local competitions.

Sami’s arrival continues a pattern of clubs turning to seasoned domestic players to stabilise their squads, particularly in defensive areas. With his contract at Sherben having ended, the switch to Biyala offers the Egyptian a fresh challenge while keeping him in a competitive environment he knows well.

The free-transfer deal, completed on 26 July 2026, sees Sami officially registered as a Biyala player ahead of the new campaign.
