Kojo Peprah Oppong: Burnley linked with move for Nice’s Ghana defender

Burnley are weighing up a move for Ghanaian centre-back Kojo Peprah Oppong, who currently plays for Nice in Ligue 1. The Championship club have been tracking the 22-year-old as they look to strengthen their defence ahead of the new season.

Oppong, born in Accra and under contract at Nice until June 2029, has established himself in France after arriving from Swedish side Norrkoping in July 2025 for a reported €2.68m fee. His market value has since risen to around €10m, a figure that is expected to shape any negotiations between the clubs.

The right-footed defender has already accumulated top-flight experience, making 29 Ligue 1 appearances for Nice and scoring once, as well as featuring in the Coupe de France and Europa League. That exposure, combined with his height of 1.85m and regular minutes at club level, has drawn interest from England as Burnley assess options with proven senior experience.

Oppong has also broken into the international scene, featuring for Ghana at the 2026 World Cup, where he made two appearances. His performances on that stage have further underlined his development since leaving the De Visser Academy for Sweden in 2023.

Nice are under no pressure to sell given the length of Oppong’s deal, and any move would likely require Burnley to reach a significant agreement reflecting his long-term contract on the Cote d’Azur. For now, the defender remains tied to Nice until 2029, with his future subject to ongoing speculation rather than concrete agreement.
