Kojo Peprah Oppong: Burnley eye move for Ghana and Nice centre-back

Burnley are weighing up a move for Ghanaian defender Kojo Peprah Oppong, who currently plays for Nice, as they look to strengthen their options at centre-back ahead of the new Championship season.

The 22-year-old, under contract with the Ligue 1 club until 30 June 2029, has emerged as a potential target after establishing himself in France following his arrival from Norrkoping last summer. Nice paid €2.68 million to sign him in July 2025, and his valuation has since risen to around €10 million.

Oppong made 29 league appearances and scored once in Ligue 1, underlining his status as a regular in the Nice back line. He also gained exposure in European competition, featuring in the Europa League and the Champions League qualifying rounds during his time in Europe.

Born in Accra and standing at 1.85m, the right-footed centre-back has followed an unconventional path, moving from Ghana’s De Visser Academy to Swedish side Norrkoping in February 2023 before his switch to France. Spells in Sweden’s Allsvenskan and Superettan helped him accumulate consistent senior minutes prior to his move to Nice.

Oppong has broken into the international scene, featuring for Ghana at the 2026 World Cup, where he made two appearances. That experience, combined with regular top-flight football in France, has increased interest in his situation.

With three years remaining on his deal at the Allianz Riviera, Nice are under no pressure to sell, and any approach from Burnley is likely to need to reflect his current market valuation if negotiations are to progress.
