Rafik Belghali: Marseille linked with move for Hellas Verona and Algeria right-back

Rafik Belghali, the Algeria international right-back currently at Hellas Verona, is being linked with a move to Ligue 1 side Marseille. The 24-year-old, who also holds Belgian nationality, is under contract with the Italian club until 30 June 2029 but has emerged as a potential target for the French team as they look to strengthen on the right side of defence.

Belghali’s performances on the biggest stage have drawn attention this year, having started every match for Algeria at the 2026 World Cup. He featured in all four of his country’s games, playing the vast majority of available minutes and contributing one goal from right-back. That level of involvement has underlined his status as a regular at international level and is understood to have alerted clubs in Europe’s major leagues.

At club level, Belghali joined Hellas Verona in August 2025 and quickly established himself in Italy. He wears the number 7 shirt for the Serie B side and is listed primarily as a defender who operates at right-back, favouring his right foot. His market value is currently estimated at around €12 million, a figure likely to form the basis of any negotiations should Marseille decide to test Verona’s resolve.

Born in Leuven in June 2002 and standing at 1.80m, Belghali represents a long-term asset for Hellas Verona, who are in a strong position to negotiate given the length of his deal running to 2029.
