PSG win race for Maghnes Akliouche as Liverpool miss out

Paris Saint-Germain have received a major boost in their pursuit of Maghnes Akliouche after the Monaco midfielder reportedly informed Liverpool that he would prefer a move to the French champions this summer.

Liverpool had recently made enquiries over the availability of the 24-year-old France international and were prepared to outbid PSG in an effort to secure his signature.

According to Foot Mercato, however, Akliouche has made it clear that Paris is his preferred destination if he leaves Monaco during the current transfer window.

PSG prepare fresh bid

The report says Liverpool were willing to submit a higher offer than PSG’s latest proposal, which is believed to be worth around €40 million.

Despite the Premier League club’s financial advantage, Akliouche’s preference is expected to strengthen PSG’s position in the race for his signature.

French newspaper L’Équipe reports that the UEFA Champions League holders are now preparing a fourth bid after seeing their previous three offers rejected by Monaco.

Monaco holding firm

Monaco remain reluctant to part with one of their key players and have so far turned down every approach from the French champions.

PSG are nevertheless expected to continue negotiations as they look to reach an agreement with the Principality club before the transfer window closes.

With the player favouring a move to Paris, the Ligue 1 champions appear to hold the advantage despite Liverpool’s willingness to pay more for the highly rated attacking midfielder.
