Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika closes in on Eintracht Frankfurt move from Club Brugge
Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika is closing in on a move to Eintracht Frankfurt, with the Bundesliga side emerging as the frontrunner to sign the Club Brugge player after reaching an agreement with him over personal terms.
According to information, the transfer is expected to be completed in the coming days, provided there are no unexpected setbacks.
The clubs are now working to finalise the remaining details before the Nigerian international undergoes a medical examination, which is anticipated next week.
If completed, the move would see the 25-year-old begin a new chapter in Germany after informing Club Brugge that he wanted a fresh challenge despite the Belgian club’s efforts to convince him to stay.
Eintracht Frankfurt move into pole position
Eintracht Frankfurt have made significant progress in their pursuit of Onyedika, overtaking other interested clubs to secure a leading position in the race for his signature.
The Bundesliga side has already agreed the framework of the player’s future contract, leaving only the final negotiations between the two clubs before the transfer can be concluded.
Frankfurt are keen to complete the deal quickly so the midfielder can join the squad in time for the club’s summer training camp.
A medical is expected to follow once the remaining formalities have been settled.
The German club views the Super Eagles midfielder as an important addition to strengthen its midfield ahead of the new season.
Interest from several clubs
Onyedika has attracted attention from several clubs during the transfer window.
Al Ittihad had previously shown interest in signing the Nigerian international, while Wolfsburg and Galatasaray were also linked with the midfielder in recent months.
Despite that competition, Eintracht Frankfurt have reportedly succeeded in convincing the player that the Bundesliga is the right destination for the next stage of his career.
The agreement between the club and the player represents a major step towards completing the transfer, leaving discussions between the two clubs as the final hurdle.
A new challenge after Club Brugge
The midfielder has spent the past few seasons with Club Brugge, where he established himself as one of the club’s regular performers.
Although his current contract runs until 30 June 2027, Onyedika had already informed the Belgian club before the end of last season that he did not intend to sign a new deal.
Club Brugge reportedly made several attempts to persuade him to remain, but the Nigerian international was determined to pursue a new opportunity elsewhere.
That decision has paved the way for negotiations over a transfer during the current window.
Transfer fee and market value
The proposed transfer is expected to be worth around €10 million, including bonuses.
While that figure is believed to be sufficient to open the door for the move, Onyedika’s estimated market value currently stands at €23 million, according to Transfermarkt.
The former FC Midtjylland midfielder has developed into one of Nigeria’s established internationals and remains under contract with Club Brugge for another two years.
He currently earns an annual salary of €677,851 (440,603,150 FCFA).
With personal terms already agreed and only final discussions between the clubs remaining, the transfer now appears to be entering its closing stages.
Should negotiations conclude successfully, Onyedika will become Eintracht Frankfurt’s latest midfield reinforcement as he prepares for his first experience in the Bundesliga.
