Egyptian FA confirms Al Ahly’s CAF Confederation Cup spot

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has officially confirmed the country’s representatives for the 2026/27 CAF inter-club competitions, with Al Ahly set to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup next season after the federation finalized its continental entries.

In a decision announced following a meeting of the EFA board, Al Ahly will feature in Africa’s second-tier club competition alongside ZED FC, marking a significant shift for the Cairo giants, who have been regular participants in the CAF Champions League over the years.

The federation also confirmed that Egyptian champions Zamalek and Pyramids FC will represent the country in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League, with Zamalek’s club license receiving official approval to participate in the continent’s premier club competition.

The announcement brings clarity to Egypt’s continental representatives ahead of the new campaign, ending speculation over which clubs would secure the nation’s four available CAF slots.

Al Ahly’s participation in the Confederation Cup represents a rare appearance in the competition for one of Africa’s most decorated clubs.

The Red Devils will now aim to add another continental trophy to their illustrious history, while ZED FC prepare for another opportunity to test themselves on the African stage.

Meanwhile, Zamalek will be looking to build on their domestic success by mounting a strong challenge in the CAF Champions League, where they will be joined by Pyramids FC as Egypt’s representatives.

The confirmation of the four clubs forms part of a series of decisions taken by the EFA board as preparations continue for the 2026/27 Egyptian football season, with the federation also addressing several administrative and technical matters during its meeting.
