Zamalek, Pyramids FC confirmed as Egypt’s representatives for 2026/27 CAF Champions League

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has officially confirmed Zamalek and Pyramids FC as the country’s two representatives in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League, setting the stage for another strong Egyptian challenge in Africa’s premier club competition.

The confirmation comes after the conclusion of the domestic season, with league champions Zamalek and runners-up Pyramids FC earning the coveted continental slots in line with CAF’s allocation for Egypt, one of Africa’s highest-ranked football associations.

Zamalek will head into the competition looking to re-establish themselves among the continent’s elite after reclaiming the Egyptian Premier League title.

The White Knights will be determined to translate their domestic success into a strong Champions League campaign as they chase continental glory.

Pyramids FC, meanwhile, return to the competition with growing ambitions after establishing themselves as one of Africa’s emerging powerhouses in recent seasons.

The Cairo-based club will also begin a new chapter under recently appointed head coach Rulani Mokwena, who replaced Krunoslav Jurčić ahead of the new campaign.

The announcement also marks a significant moment in Egyptian football, with record African champions Al Ahly missing out on a Champions League place for the first time in more than two decades.

Instead, the Red Devils will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup alongside Ceramica Cleopatra after finishing outside the top two in the Egyptian Premier League.

CAF has already unveiled the calendar for the 2026/27 interclub competitions, with the first preliminary round scheduled to begin in early September before the group stage gets underway later in the year.

With two of the country’s strongest clubs set to fly Egypt’s flag, expectations will once again be high for Zamalek and Pyramids FC to make deep runs in the competition as they aim to keep the CAF Champions League trophy in Egyptian hands.
