Memphis Depay eyes three-year deal with Corinthians

Memphis Depay’s future at Corinthians is back in focus, with the Dutch forward reportedly pushing for a three-year contract extension that would keep him in Brazil until mid-2029.

The idea is tied not just to football, but also to Corinthians’ finances, since the longer deal would help spread out payments linked to his current obligations.

The 32-year-old joined Corinthians on 9 September 2024 and quickly showed why the club wanted him. He scored his first goal on 18 October 2024 against Athletico Paranaense, then delivered one of his best nights on 4 December, scoring twice, including a free-kick, and assisting Yuri Alberto in a 3-0 win over Bahia. That season, he played a key role in helping a struggling Corinthians side avoid relegation in the Brasileirão.

Now the discussion has become more complicated. His representatives have reportedly adjusted the financial terms, but they still want a long-term commitment and an immediate answer from the club.

Corinthians, meanwhile, are considering a shorter two-year offer, while internal resistance remains strong because of concerns about cost, form, and fitness. The final call now sits with president Osmar Stábile.
