Emile Heskey backs Liverpool to consider Cody Gakpo sale

Emile Heskey believes Liverpool should be open to selling Cody Gakpo this summer if a strong offer arrives, even though the Dutch forward has become a versatile option at Anfield.

Speaking to 10bet via Metro, the former Reds striker argued that new boss Andoni Iraola must be pragmatic as he reshapes the squad.

“I would consider selling Cody if a decent offer was on the table,” Heskey said, calling Gakpo “an asset who holds significant market value that you could cash in on to fund your own vision.” He stressed that a new manager has to assess the group “cold-headedly” when planning for the future, rather than purely on past contributions.

Gakpo joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 and has now spent three-and-a-half seasons at the club, operating across the front line and occasionally in deeper roles.

The 27-year-old remains under contract, but the BBC has reported there is a chance he may never play under Iraola, underlining how uncertain his position has become. As Liverpool move into a new era, Heskey thinks any big bid could be an opportunity to rebalance the squad around the Spaniard’s ideas.
