FAF and Vladimir Petkovic yet to resume talks as uncertainty over Algeria future continues
Communication between the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) and head coach Vladimir Petkovic has reportedly come to a standstill, despite growing speculation over the Swiss-Bosnian’s future following Algeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
Reports in recent days have suggested that discussions were progressing between the two parties and that Petkovic had already begun shaping plans for the next international window.
However, fresh information indicates that no contact has taken place since the coach submitted his technical report reviewing Algeria’s World Cup performance.
According to sources cited by La Gazette du Fennec, Petkovic has not communicated with the FAF after delivering his assessment of the tournament.
The coach was expected to provide details of the national team’s preparation programme for the September FIFA international window, but that information has yet to be submitted.
The development contradicts recent rumours claiming an agreement had already been reached regarding the continuation of Petkovic’s technical staff.
Reports suggesting the coach would spend three weeks out of every month working in Algiers have also been dismissed.
Petkovic’s future remains unresolved
Uncertainty has surrounded Petkovic’s position since Algeria’s World Cup campaign ended, although no official announcement has been made regarding his future.
While the coach remains under contract, there has been little public indication of the direction the federation intends to take.
The latest reports suggest that no discussions are currently taking place between the two sides, leaving the situation unresolved.
Petkovic’s post-tournament report was expected to serve as the first step in preparations for the next international fixtures.
Instead, communication has reportedly stalled, with the federation still waiting for the coach’s proposed programme for September.
The silence has added to speculation over whether both parties will continue working together ahead of the upcoming FIFA window.
No response to federation requests
According to the reports, Petkovic has not replied to the FAF’s request regarding preparations for the September training camp.
His position on several internal matters also remains unknown, including developments concerning his assistant, Davide Morandi, whose future has reportedly already been decided within the federation.
Without a response from the head coach, the federation is unable to move forward with planning for the next gathering of the national team.
The lack of communication has therefore become the latest obstacle in an already uncertain situation.
Technical committee assessment adds to uncertainty
The issue also comes after Algeria’s national technical committee met to review Petkovic’s tenure since taking charge around two and a half years ago.
According to the report, the committee completed its assessment of the coach’s work, but Petkovic has not responded to its conclusions.
As a result, the future of the Algeria manager remains unresolved.
For now, there has been no official confirmation of a departure or continuation, while the reported lack of communication means the situation remains on hold.
With preparations for September expected to begin soon, attention will remain on whether contact between the federation and Petkovic resumes in the coming weeks.
