Fabian Nworie Maduabuchi: Nigerian defender joins Kano Pillars on free transfer

Nigerian centre-back Fabian Nworie Maduabuchi has joined Kano Pillars on a free transfer from NPFL rivals Remo Stars. The 29-year-old defender, who stands at 1.82m and plays primarily at the heart of defence, moves to the Kano club ahead of the new campaign after his deal with the reigning champions came to an end.

Maduabuchi arrives at Pillars with extensive top-flight experience, having made 137 appearances in the Nigeria Premier Football League and logging more than 11,500 minutes of league football. He has also featured regularly on the continental stage, playing in both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.

The right-footed defender moves with a strong track record of success in domestic competition. He is a two-time Nigerian champion, having lifted the NPFL title with Rivers United in the 2021-22 season and again with Remo Stars in 2024-25. His move from Remo Stars to Kano Pillars follows an 18-month spell in Ikenne that included a brief stint at Enyimba Aba before he returned to help Remo secure the league crown.

Before his time at Remo Stars, Maduabuchi built his reputation with Rivers United after joining them from Kwara United in 2020, gaining valuable experience in high-pressure league and continental fixtures. His current market valuation stands at around €75,000, underlining Kano Pillars’ decision to strengthen their defensive options without paying a fee.

Maduabuchi officially joined Kano Pillars on 24 July 2026, completing a free transfer from Remo Stars.
